Moharram, mourning carnival in Tehran
According to Shiites believe, Ashoura is the day ten of Moharram month after Arabic calendar. In this day Imam Hussein and 72 persons, among other women and children were killed by Yazid and their soldiers about 1400 years ago. Shiites still mark this day by arranging mourning carnival. These photos are taken on this day in 2005. It is interesting that, these ceremonies have been getting much extreme after Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979.
